Imperial units.... or metric....?

It was the time the transition from 'British to Metric' system was being implemented. The conversion from 'pound' to 'kilogram', 'gallon' to 'liter', 'mile' to 'kilometer' was not easy, to say the least... The current system of currency and coins (decimalized) was also introduced that time (1957). Earlier it was all 'anna' and 'paisa'. Sixteen annas make one rupee and each anna comprises of 4 paisa. A 1/4 anna coin (1 paisa) was very much in use, which was 1/64th of a rupee. That could buy something substantial! Though most of the measures are mentioned in 'metric' system now, still we see the common usage of British units in some areas. The construction drawings might show the distances in meters but in the brackets you would see the distance written in 'feet'. Life.... full of compromises

Life is full of compromises. Without compromising on something, we cannot live our lives. We cannot be stubborn. We should not be rigid. A strong wind can break the 'moringa' tree, but cannot affect the 'bulrush' (usually found on the river banks) which will bend and withstand the strong wind. So, wherever needed we should be like the bulrush and survive the onslaught. That is the secret of survival in life. In any situation in life, we will be facing conflicting set of choices.We may have to choose the right options (the best possible), given the circumstances. That might not have been the ideal solution, but the 'best possible' one. When I give my clothes for stitching to my tailor, who is good in his work, he always delays the delivery of the finished apparel. He keeps postponing his 'delivery promise' at least 5 or 6 times. What should make us happy....?

A recent whatsapp video brought out a very valid message, which I want to share with you. "A blind boy sits in a busy road corner with a placard reading, 'I am blind. Please help'. He could collect only a few coins in a day. One day a man walked by and saw the writing on the placard. After throwing some coins in the boy's hat, he changed the wordings in the placard and went away. The boy's hat was filling up fast from then on and the boy was taken by surprise. The very next day the same man happened to walk by the road. The boy could recognize him by his footsteps. He asked the man what he did the previous day, which resulted in him collecting more coins. The man said that he changed the writing in the placard as follows: 'Today is a beautiful day; but I cannot see". This made a whole lot of difference.
