Logic goes for a toss...!

'Logic' is roughly defined as 'the study of the principles of correct reasoning'.

There is a term called 'fallacy' which means 'misconception' or 'misjudgment'. It is generally associated with 'logic'. Though the argument is right and all points get discussed, sometimes, the conclusion that we make out of the details is wrong (misconceived). Having considered all the points after discussion, if we take a diametrically opposite decision (contrary to the logical conclusion), then it is absurd. If our decision or ruling does not follow any logic, it is then called 'illogical' or 'irrational'.

Logic invariably is a victim in most of the movies (especially Indian movies and TV soaps).  The script-writer does not bother about the logic in his story or the scenes. It goes for a big toss, most of the times! The (so-called) hero, however frail or weak he may be, can easily kill 100's of goons of the size of Arnold Schwarzenegger with bare hands. He can fly like a bird. Each of his blows will be that of a sledge hammer! The screen hero can run behind a speeding car and overtake it (putting Usain Bolt to shame!). By affixing or removing moustache, he can transform to a totally different person who cannot be identified by even his mother! But the viewers like us can easily spot him....

Though our hero is an urchin without a job (but he will have swanky motor-bikes and can drink with a bunch of vagabonds at will), a bevy of young, beautiful and rich girls will fall for him and love him up to the hilt! They will be madly in love with him despite protests from her family members. The sad part is that young boys and girls try to emulate such scenarios in their real lives. Most of our movie directors will ask, 'what is logic?' They give a damn about logic.

When you drink Vodka over ice, it can give you kidney failure; when you drink Rum over ice, it can give you liver failure; when you drink Whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems; when you drink Gin over ice, it can cause brain problems. Apparently, ice is really bad for you; warn all your friends.... This joke is the result of a totally illogical conclusion. I recently saw this in a 'fb' posting.

Another 'fb 'posting I came across recently: 'I used to think that drinking is bad for me. So, I stopped thinking!' Yet another 'illogical conclusion'.

I came across an illogical 'saying' of Confucius which states, 'Never form a friendship with a man who is not better than you'. Can anyone follow this? Impossible! Let us take 3 people, A, B, & C. Out of the 3, A is better than B and B is better than C. A cannot form friendship with either B or C as both are inferior to him. B cannot form friendship with C as C is inferior to B. But B can be a friend with A. Problem is A will not accept him as his friend as B is inferior. C might be interested in being friends with A and B. But both A & B will not have C as their friends as C is inferior to both A & B. Friendship depends on trust on each other and not by comparison.

Logic plays a major role in court arguments, especially to emphasize circumstantial evidence. If the logic is right, it is accepted by the court. The element of 'alibi' works on that basis. But unfortunately, of late, the court rulings point to the opposite direction, devoid of all logic. When the case filed is to rule in favor of punishment for the man also (as the woman is punished) for illegal relationship, the judgement given is that illegal relationship (out of marriage) is not a crime! Where is the logic behind this court verdict?

Let us think logically and take sane decisions....
