Never underestimate anybody......

A renowned engineer once had to travel alone in his car. On the way, he encountered a punctured tyre. He did not have any help nearby. And no mechanical shop in the vicinity. Of course he knew how to change the tyre.... With no help at hand, he started unscrewing the nuts on the punctured wheel and held the 4 nuts in his hand. When he was about to keep them on the ground and start removing the tyre, the nuts rolled down on the slope and fell into the ditch nearby. He did not dare to get down and plunge his hand inside the ditch water to retrieve the nuts. He was perplexed and could not think of any solution. Suddenly he saw a man in tatters approaching him. The engineer thought that if he gave some money, this man would get him the nuts from the ditch. The offer was accepted by the man in rags. Fear of the pandemic......

Pandemic (corona virus) is the talk of the world now. Any Tom, Dick and Harry is writing about the pandemic! Then, why not Theri....? One does not have to have any semblance of knowledge about the virus to write or talk about it! I can say, 'the elephant is like a big ball' (after touching it's stomach). A lot of information (fake, mostly!) about the COVID-19 is flying in the air, like the virus itself (WHO has confirmed that the virus is air-borne). More than the virus itself, 'the fear of the pandemic' occupies the minds of most of the people. The fear of the pandemic should be feared more than the pandemic itself. By fearing about the virus, we will only aggravate the chances of contracting the virus. Most of the media has to be blamed for this hype. Every second, there is 'breaking news'. Imperial units.... or metric....?

It was the time the transition from 'British to Metric' system was being implemented. The conversion from 'pound' to 'kilogram', 'gallon' to 'liter', 'mile' to 'kilometer' was not easy, to say the least... The current system of currency and coins (decimalized) was also introduced that time (1957). Earlier it was all 'anna' and 'paisa'. Sixteen annas make one rupee and each anna comprises of 4 paisa. A 1/4 anna coin (1 paisa) was very much in use, which was 1/64th of a rupee. That could buy something substantial! Though most of the measures are mentioned in 'metric' system now, still we see the common usage of British units in some areas. The construction drawings might show the distances in meters but in the brackets you would see the distance written in 'feet'. Even now most of the construction field staff can easily visualize the distance in feet only. For them, that comes naturally. The ship...
