Civic Sense....! What....?

One day recently, when I opened the door in my house, to see the outside world (after a siesta), I saw about 10 two - wheelers parked in front of my house restricting me going to the road. We in fact, had planned to go out in our car; but we could not get our car out from the shed as 3 motor bikes were parked in front of the gate. I had to look for the vehicle owners and ask them to clear off the space for us to take out our car. In front of our house, there is very good shade, thanks to two neem trees we planted long back. We do not mind people parking their vehicles in the shade, but they should respect our need to use the front-yard.

We treat the public property (and private property of others!) as our own. We have scant respect for the other users of the public property. Let them suffer; we must feel comfortable. That is the attitude! Though the municipality has arranged for collection of garbage from all households every day, people still throw the garbage on the road. The government authorities should place more dust bins at strategic locations and educate and encourage the citizens to use them properly. It would become a habit in the long run.

Where there is a habit of chewing 'paan', people spit on the roads and walls, painting the place red unmindful of the hygiene and utter disregard for the other users of the road. People use the walls of public places as their canvass for obscene graffiti. Their dirty minds exposed in such acts corrupt other users of the public facilities.  The sense of cleanliness has to be imbued in everyone, right from early childhood. A clean society is a healthy society.

It is the attitude! The social ethics is lacking in most of us. The civic sense has to be cultivated right from a tender age. The school and home should play a major part in shaping the children to become mature adults. Law-abiding and respect for others, harmonious living with all types of people in the society without any animosity towards each other are very important. The society and the nation as a whole will become better places for living, for everyone.

We can regularly experience the blaring of loud-speakers in all streets, whatever be the occasion. Let us not disturb others in the area. School children may be preparing for their exams, babies and toddlers may get disturbed. Noise pollution is a big nuisance and menace in our society.

I need to mention about the flash strikes organized suddenly by affected group of people. This is of course a method to get the attention of the people in authority who would be in a position to redress their grievances. But still what I feel is this should be avoided to the extent possible. Holding up the traffic for hours together in a busy thoroughfare, causes untoward difficulties and inconveniences for the users of the road. Such hold-ups have inconvenienced many people and precious lives are lost due to such occurrences.

One should try to see anything from other person's perspective. You may agree with it or not agree with it. But respect the other's point of view. Live in harmony.... No acrimony.....

Okay, all this is like giving advice, right? I recently read in an article that the cheapest thing in the world is (giving) advice. Also, youngsters today will prefer 5 cc of poison rather than listening to 5 minutes of advice! What to do? The old-timers have this habit......
