Where is today's youth heading towards....?

Where is today's youth heading towards? They are brilliant and very skilled, compared to the earlier generation. No doubt about it. At the same time, some of the recent incidents make us worry.

A girl (around 20 years of age) is killed in front of a big crowd of people by a stalker. This happened recently in Chennai (India). It seems that the boy was in love with the girl. But the girl did not reciprocate his love. And it is not necessary for 'someone' to love back, just because a person loves 'someone'. No one can make another person love some one, by force or constant nagging. Love is a 'natural feeling' of one person on the other. Now that the girl's marriage is fixed with someone-else, this boy got agitated. When the girl was waiting at the railway station to board a local train to go to her college, this boy (after an argument with the girl) suddenly pushed her on to the railway track, when a train was running on in the track. She died on the spot, crushed by the running train. A huge crowd of people, though they were watching this, they could not do anything as this happened suddenly and no one could have expected such a rash act by the boy.

And another tragedy took place in the family of the girl. Not being able to digest the unexpected, untimely, sudden death of his daughter, the father of the girl had a heart attach (or consumed poison) and died. The rash act of the boy caused two deaths in the same family. How was this boy brought up by his family? Is it that, neither the parents nor the schools teach any morals to their child(ren)? Influence of cinema also plays a big part in the behavior of the boys and girls. The hero (he should be described as a villain) doing such things in the movie is glorified. It is high time that someone (parent / schools) takes the responsibility of grooming the children in the proper way.

Another recent incident. A quarrel pops up between 2 friends over their cricketing idols. One friend is killed by the other friend, in a fit of rage, over an argument. It is okay to have your matinee idols, cricketing idols, football idols etc. We can appreciate and admire their talents in their chosen fields. If possible, taking them as inspirations, we should unearth our innate talents and convert them as skills and achieve great goals in life. To that extent our love for the idols is fine. But, to fight (that too with a good friend), over our idols with each other is ridiculous and it is sheer nonsense. The behavior of the killer is the result of utter madness (he had over his idol).

A girl was asked by her parents to concentrate on her studies. She commits suicide. This too happened very recently. Don't the parents have the right, even to tell their children to concentrate on studies? Well, it is wrong on the part of the parents to torture the children and ask them to study all the time. It is also wrong to compare our son/daughter with his/her friends and keep on nagging them to emulate their friends and neighbors. But keeping in mind the children's future, is it not correct for the parents to ask their children to study well? Is it a crime? Don't the parents have that much right over their child?

School children consuming liquor and taking to drugs is a very common occurrence these days. Who is responsible for the easy availability of liquor and drugs? Why are the parents not able to monitor and control their children? These are all unanswerable questions....

We cannot think of the above incidents as 'sporadic'. Such incidents keep happening at regular intervals and in increased frequency, of late. That is why we should be worried about them.

How is the youth of today shaping up? Too much of pampering by the parents (being a single child, in most cases) is one of the reasons. They don't grow up in the situation, where siblings quarrel and patch up. They don't know what is 'compassion' and love towards fellow beings. Influence of social media, movies is yet another spoilsport. All said and done, it is unmistakably the responsibility of the parents to shape them as good citizens (with morals and better behavior). Forget the schools as they have turned commercial long back.

  1. While booking the youth for murder of the girl, the parents of the youth also should be booked for poor upbringing.....

    1. You are quite right Sankaran. The upbringing of the culprit is definitely very bad and for that reason, the parents have to get suitable punishment
