Are you a member of the 'Procrastinators Club'?

A joke doing the rounds in the social media : A 'Procrastinators Club' is formed (after several postponements, of course!) and a lot of prospective members (richly deserving membership) are giving all kinds of excuses to join the Club (naturally!). Finally it gets formed. The first ever meeting is announced by a guy (may be he does not deserve to be in this Club!). Postponements after postponements......The first meeting is yet to happen....

How many of us truly deserve this honor? Many of us, I believe!

Why does one procrastinate? It is mainly due to over-confidence that the particular task could be completed in the last minute, without any hitch. For submitting a 'BID' at 10.00 A.M., some guys come to the office at 9.00 A.M. and start preparing the 'bid documents'. They do not anticipate unexpected power failure or any other untoward mishap. You may succeed in submitting the bid in time but sometimes you may not meet the time schedule, due to several occurrences not anticipated at all. So, when the task is of utmost importance, one should be extra careful and complete the job well in advance.

Another reason for postponing doing things in time is because you think the task is difficult to accomplish. It keeps nagging you, at the back of your mind. In fact, it could be tackled by breaking the task into several small steps and proceeding to solve it one by one. By doing the tough task successfully, you would be motivated more to run through other jobs 'just-like-that'.

When we have many tasks to be completed within a given time, we must give priority to the task which needs to be completed urgently and follow that sequence. But we must try to complete all the tasks within the stipulated time.

Our entire judicial system deserves the 'prime membership' in this Club. Thousands of cases are pending for judgement over the past several years in the various courts of India. After several generations only, the verdict will be pronounced, making it redundant. 'Justice delayed is justice denied' they say. But who cares! It is this inordinate delay that prompts most of the offenders to carry on with their crimes, nonchalantly. They know for sure that they will not be found guilty, in their lifetime. Correcting this monumental problem is of great importance for our country. If this is rectified, we can see lesser number of crimes being committed, which in turn will make the country prosperous. Who is going to bell the cat? It is a million dollar question!

Most of the government related orders and quasi-government directives are invariably given one or two extensions. No one bothers to do as per the orders, because everyone knows that they will be given more time to abide by the orders. We have that attitude and mindset, cultured over the years.

The students never study their lessons as and when they are taught. They keep postponing till the exams are about to start. They will be moving around like 'zombies' in the last one month, before the final exams with long beards (no time to shave!). So, we are accustomed to such procrastinations right from our young days.....

NOTE : I was planning to write this blog. I postponed it.... postponed it..... for several days. So, I am sure to get into the 'Procrastinators Club'.
