Reversing the aging process... Is it the dire need of the hour....?

A lot of research is going on in every field, known to humans. A lot is being invented as well, every day. No doubt, some inventions are really very useful and helpful for the human race. Some may be of academic interest. Anyway that also could lead to some other useful invention in future. The pace of landing in inventions (from the research process) is actually frantic, to say the least.

Of course, path-breaking inventions had happened right from the early days. But the pace was not so pronounced earlier, compared to the present days. One cannot imagine the type of research and the number of research projects going on now, in every conceivable field. The inventions are quickly put to use in various domains, benefiting the mankind.

Increasingly, the environment gets polluted. We see air pollution, sound pollution, water getting polluted. Pollution by plastic is a very big menace. The world gets hotter, day after day, due to various activities of the humans. The world population is on the increase, despite several measures being taken the world over. So, the ever-increasing problems get multiplied manifold. The essential needs for the people (housing, food, water, air) keep increasing, on an alarming scale. How to meet the requirements - is a major question posed to the research scientists, all over the world.

Providing dwellings for the people may become a big challenge. The available land area is shrinking, gradually. High-rise buildings may be the solution of the future. To have skyscrapers, the infrastructure like parking space, play area, shopping, schools, hospitals in and around the housing facilities has to increase and they will require space. Unless proper planning is done in advance, and get a picture of the future demands, it might become a chaos situation. Innovative housing solutions should also be tried.

Next comes the requirement of food in sufficient measure to feed the entire world population. On the one hand, the land mass available for cultivation is getting reduced due to occupation of land for other purposes (factories, housings etc.). So, the available solution is to increase the productivity of a given extent of land, to several times the present level. Required water for cultivation should also be made available, by harnessing the water resources properly. Research is on now to gradually replace farm-grown food by lab-grown food, to meet the increasing demand of the ever-expanding population. A study forecasts that by the year 2040, close to 30% of the meat consumed by the world population would be from the lab. Will it have any harmful side-effects, will it have enough nutrients, will it be costlier than farm-food - these are the questions that are being attended to. We have to wait and watch.

It is predicted that the next war would be fought for water. Nature has given its bounty which we waste like that there is no 'tomorrow'! First of all, this has to be stopped by enacting severe and strong laws and implementing them ruthlessly. Drinking water should be obtained from converting sea water by whatever process, which should be economically feasible and not endangering the sea wealth. Presently-in-vogue desalination process or RO process may not be the right solutions (cost-wise), when we talk of providing potable water to the increasing world population. The research should be aimed at that.

Then comes the 'breathable air' which is becoming 'a rare commodity'. We are polluting the air by several activities. The damaging effects could be nullified to a great extent by growing more trees and not destroying the available forests. At this pace, we may have to carry 'an oxygen cylinder' wherever we go. Serious research should be undertaken to stem the rot so that clean air is available in the atmosphere. People should not be driven to the stage where they have to pay for the breathing air.

Global warming is another serious issue the world is facing. Unless the carbon footprint is reduced to manageable levels, most part of the world will go under the sea in the near future. Focused research in this direction has to be taken up on a high priority. Every country should contribute towards this goal.

Instead of doing research in the fields of essential things, some research is going on to reverse the aging process. Humans should not attempt anything contrary to nature. This might trigger unknown negative effects, which again we have to fight. Medical research should contribute to the better health of humans, through scrupulous methods.
