Are we selfish....? Yes, we are....!

When we go to a crowded restaurant (where there is no reservation system), we may have to wait for a table. The occupants of the table would appear to us as monsters taking their sweet time to finish off their meals. It may look like, we are waiting for eternity! We will curse them in our mind.
"Can they not finish their meals soon? How long do we have to wait? They do not have the courtesy to quickly finish and give way to people waiting for the table. What kind of people....?"
Okay, now finally we get the table for us. During the course of taking our grub, there comes another group of people and waits for our table.
"Why do they have to breath down our neck? We cannot even take our meals peacefully; what a pity?" - This is how we would grumble, right?

We go out to a nearby place for some shopping, by walk. Very surprisingly so...! We did not follow the IMD report for the day. Suddenly it starts poring. We curse the rain as if we do not need rain for our survival. "Only when I come out, should it rain? Stupid rain!!" After a while, when the rain stops, we reach home quickly. And then again it starts raining. "Good God! I am home". Now if it rains, we are happy. (After all, rain is necessary for our living, right!). Now we do not bother about other people being inconvenienced by the downpour. For example, the street-vendors, who lead their lives by selling their wares during the peak evening session. (Let them go to........). As long as we are okay, it is good for us.

There is a family of mother, a daughter and a son. The daughter gets married. The son-in-law does all the house chores and does not allow his wife to do any work. The mother is very happy and boasts to her neighbors. 'My daughter is so lucky that my son-in-law does not even allow her to walk. He takes care of her every need'. The son soon gets married. The son, like his brother-in-law does all the house chores and takes care of his wife so well. The mother now says, 'Poor fellow, my son. His wife does not do any work. My son has to do all the work. What a wretched girl I have got for my son?' Are we not selfish?

Given a half-chance, we will try to jump the queue and reach the front, as if we have so much of urgent work to do and others are not that busy. The brick kiln owner wants bright sunshine and dry weather throughout the year, whereas the peasant needs rain most of the year. We can give many such examples. Contrasting requirements and demands to God! God knows what to give, whom to give, when to give and how much to give. It is for us to make the most out of it, using our common sense.
