Never regret your past decisions

Whatever has happened, has happened.... Believe that it has happened this way for our good. No one can change it; there is no point in ruing over it. It (the decision) is after all taken by us. What we could do is, before taking a crucial decision, to consider the implications of various options and choose the best option (according to us). Well, even after careful scrutiny of the possible outcomes, we may go wrong sometimes. We did not take the decision that we took, knowingly that it was bound to be wrong. Despite all our good intentions and calculations (or whatever), the decision turns out to be disastrous. Probably, that was how it was meant to be.

Most of us, in hindsight, used to travel back in our memory lane and regret the decisions we had taken long back. "Oh! I should not have resigned from my job from 'that' company. I was foolish to do so". But we would have considered the 'pros and cons' of resigning, while we took the decision. The decision would have been influenced by various factors like, the company's status at that point of time, our growth possibilities, family pressure etc. After a few years, we would notice that our juniors in 'that' company are doing very well now as the company had prospered beyond our imagination.

Another usual regret of many people is, 'Oh! I should have married the other person. My life would have been much better'. No sir. We should make the most out of the marriage that we have had, to be happy. The other side always looks greener. Speculations in hindsight are of no use!

Our decisions, once taken, are irrevocable. We have to go through the stride. The best thing is to make the best of the present status (due to the decision we had taken) and go ahead. If we are destined to become 'this' or 'that', nothing in this world can stop us. We might have our dreams and visions for the future and relentlessly work towards achieving our goal. Yes, that is definitely needed. We sow the right kind of seeds, in the right time and do whatever is needed for the growth of the plants. But the extraneous factors such as timely monsoon, no untimely cyclones, no unexpected pest attack are all dependent on the Almighty God (the atheists may call them as 'nature'). If they are not conducive for the full growth of the plants, we would not get the expected returns from our fields. On the other hand, it might turn out to be the best productive yield, if everything works in our favor. The decision was the same.

No one could have foreseen the year 2020 to be ruled by the 'corona virus'. How many plans of how many people would have resulted in tatters! Similarly, earthquakes, tsunami, unprecedented floods, poor rainfall, sudden economic slowdown in various countries are still not predicted in time. The 'so-called experts' might reel off reasons for the debacle, after it happens.

Man proposes, God disposes. So, our duty is to plan things (taking into account, the various aspects) and execute them to the best of our ability. And leave the rest to God. He knows what is best for us. Never, ever regret the decisions taken by you, but learn the lessons from your mistakes and failures and lead a better life.

  1. Please read Gita which says " do ur karma and leave the rest to God." Also every episode of Mahabharat gives us valuable lesson.. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is uncertain and so live for today..( after accumulating enough wealth to take care..) Quote within the brackets is added by another Krishnan..)
