Is there anything called "free lunch"?

Yes, there is. In religious places and in some charity houses, poor and down-trodden people are offered 'free lunch' every day. Other than that, there is no such thing called "free lunch". Everything else comes at a cost, either directly visible or hidden.

We see advertisements of various products in all media screaming of "FREE", this or that. Is it really 'free'? No, it is a camouflaged way of pushing their products down our throats. We all have a tendency to go for anything, when something is offered with a FREE article or service. But the clever trader adds the 'cost of the free item' in the "offer price", besides his profit. We normally fall prey to such gimmicks.

These days, the 'drinking water' is not free. The air we breath is also not going to be free, very soon. We may have to carry our 'oxygen tank' with us, wherever we go. When something is offered free, there is an unseen rider attached to it. If we are clever enough, we can notice it. The advertiser targets the vulnerable and the gullible public.

Yes, there is another thing which is available absolutely FREE these days. "Unwarranted advice". Everybody advises everybody-else. But the fact is no one wants anybody's advice. People can think for themselves. Any decision taken should be by the individual. Whatever be the outcome, he takes full responsibility for it.

If anyone genuinely seeks your advice, please be careful and give it as a 'suggestion' and not 'advice'. Whether to abide by it or not, is totally his decision, using his discretionary power. Tomorrow he cannot blame you for the negative result, should in case it happens.

In the recent few months we have witnessed several pieces of advice from various quarters, on the control of "coronavirus" affliction. Are they from qualified doctors, having proper knowledge of the disease? All sundry people started giving (miracle) remedial measures. One would go mad, after reading all such 'words of wisdom'.

When someone sees a person who is a bit obese, immediately he gives FREE advice about diet, work-out etc. We assume the obese person to be 'dumb' and assume ourselves to be very knowledgeable.

We see our relatives or acquittances, having no child after just one year of marriage. Immediately we start giving 'valuable' advice to approach 'this' clinic. Don't they know? In fact, they will know better than us because they are going through that. We do not bother about the psychological effect it would have on the couple. We should be sensitive to such issues.

Never give FREE advice to anybody. This is my advice (no..., suggestion!).

Comments

  1. Whatever nature has provided for mankind comes free, like water, air etc. But we have polluted them so much, that we have to pay for clean water and air.
Only made made items come at a price.

I agree with what you have said about advise and suggestion.

Our forefathers and Rishi's have shared their knowledge experience as free. But, today all knowledge is patented and shared only at a price.
