Are you 'decisive' or 'indecisive'...?

Is it difficult to take the decision 'on time'? YES & NO. "Yes" for those who are indecisive in nature; and "No" for those who are very decisive in nature. The process of 'decision making' requires one to go through the various 'ramifications and the consequences' and also the positive effects (of the decision), before taking the plunge. One has to weigh the 'pros and cons' and decide sensibly, based on which weighs more. There can never be a 100% safe situation or an unsafe situation. It is a mixture of both 'advantages and disadvantages'.

Sometimes, despite our careful and conscious analysis of the 'merits and demerits', our decision may go wrong. We should be prepared to face the consequences and ramifications. We should immediately start doing the 'course correction'. Well-informed and sharp people always will have plan 'B' to implement, should their decision go wrong. Such incidents can be witnessed mainly in industry circles. The decision-maker may have to consider so many complex matters before taking the decision. He would make use of 'decision making tools' as well as his 'gut feeling' in such situations. Even after so many 'brain-storming' sessions with all concerned people, failures of his decision cannot be avoided 100%. But they never panic, as that is not the end of the road; this could be the beginning of a new road!

Take the case of a chess player. He needs to make his move within a stipulated time, depending on his opponent's move. Within the given time, he has to consider various possibilities that may emerge out of his 'move'. Okay, the opponent makes his move now. He must have expected this move (possibly). Or it would have been totally in contrast to what he thought of. Then he has to again consider several scenarios that may emerge out of his decision and then make his move. This goes on and on. Here, his sharp acumen, analyzing capacity, and decision making power come to the fore. And all through the game, he cannot allow his concentration to waver even for a second. Similarly in other games (football, tennis etc.) also, the player needs to take 'split-second decisions', depending on the situation, to tackle the opponent's move.

In other walks of life, we face various situations wherein we need to take 'long-term decisions' that will have lasting effect (like choosing a career, choosing the life-partner) and also 'short-term' decisions. Every day, we face several situations wherein we have to take ’spot decisions’, which cannot be postponed. The result of our decision making will be visible in the impact it makes in our lives. In taking the decision, we should use our brain, not giving preference to our mind. Logic also should play an important role in our decision.

Some people keep on procrastinating, without taking the required decisions in time. Firstly they are quite indecisive and secondly they think that the problem will find a solution by itself, after some time. There is a chance that the problem might get bigger and complicated, if the decision is not taken in time. Postponing the decision does not help. "A stich in time saves nine".
