No expectation..., no disappointment....

We get disappointed only when we have expectation (and when the expectation does not turn out to be a reality). When there is no expectation of any sort, whatever we get, is a blessing. We get satisfied with whatever we get and that makes us happy. After all, the happiness in life, is of paramount importance. But, for that reason, can we totally avoid having any expectation? That is impossible to many of us. What is our aim when we join a reputed University? To get the coveted degree, and that too with 'flying colors'! Why do we join a sports academy, after having spotted our talent, in that particular sport? To become a champion sportsman. We put in all our heart and soul into it. So, it is quite natural for us to expect the result, right? No, sir! Aim is different from expectation. We aim to become 'this or that'. Nothing wrong with that. We should work towards that aim and try to achieve the goal, set by us. But, despite all our efforts and dedication, the resu...

Is it the 'pay-back' time....?

I always see in social media posts, that the present day youngsters are not taking care of their parents. It is probably true to some extent. But before we point our accusing finger at the children of the parents, we need to probe into various circumstantial details. Those days (when the present day parents were in their youth), each family had at least 4 or more children. Even the grandparents were living with them. The children were taught moral stories (bed times were meant for that) by the grandparents. Though sibling rivalry was prevalent among the children, 'give and take policy, 'value of tolerance', 'that we cannot get everything we ask for' were understood by the children, when they were growing up. A rare camaraderie existed among the siblings. Even if one brother cannot take up the responsibility of looking after their parents (in their autumn years), another brother would step in. In some families, they even had a rotating system vide which each b...

Patience is a virtue..., is it?

The two most powerful warriors are "patience" and "time" - Leo Tolstoy Is patience (waiting for something without getting angry or upset) a 'virtue' or our inability to react, or our willingness to withstand the failure? There is a saying in Tamil which translates roughly as 'those who are patient will rule the world'. Is it correct? Or a ploy to make you not to get upset for not getting whatever you desired for? To get something you wanted, it may take an appropriate time gap for that to get matured. So there is no point in getting agitated, if you do not get it as and when you want. That intervening time period is something which you need to wait for, to get the wholesome 'product' of your desire. It is known as the 'gestation' period. Patience is a skill we need to cultivate. It helps us overcome our anxiety and stress, which is really good for our health, as well. Those who experience the traffic snarls in metros will become pa...

Are we grooming our children properly....?

As a natural corollary of the marriage, the couple get children. Okay, may be one child; that is the present trend. It could be due to various reasons, like difficulty associated with bringing up the child in today's world, concern about the increasing world population (haha!), to avoid sibling rivalry and it could be anything else.... Even governments advertise, 'we two, ours one'. Most of us are not in a position to accommodate our aged parents (to live with us). (Well, there are several reasons for this; I am doing a separate blog on this subject).  So our child does not get the life lessons and wisdom from the grandparents. The father and mother are very busy earning (to make ends meet!) and hence no time to look after the ward, in her/his growing up phase. Some fathers may not even know what his son is studying (sic!). I am not joking, really... Our inability to have an eye on our child, (not spying, of course), coupled with various other things like, pampering him...
